A 3 part series about my experience (so far) with P90X…
As many of you know I’ve been doing the P90X workout routine for 2 months and I thought I would do a small review of my thoughts. I just started week 9 of a 13 week program and overall I really enjoy it and I’ve noticed some huge improvements. I’ve always been in pretty good shape and I’ve done it mainly by running and biking, with a few pushup and crunches mixed in I also haven’t belonged to a gym in over 2 years. Last year I managed to drop about 30 pounds and get into really great condition for backpacking and hunting. Again it was all running and biking, both of which I enjoy and will continue to do.
But I’ve never done much weightlifting and certainly haven’t done any kind of program. For those of you that don’t know P90X is a pretty intense program consisting of A LOT of pushups and pull ups, cardio routines, some weightlifting, plyometrics and a lot of ab and core work. It’s definitely a full body routine. You can only buy it online and it’s really only advertised through late night infomercials (and by word of mouth.) I’d seen it on TV but it wasn’t until my brother-in-law started doing it that I took notice. He’s in great shape and works out very hard, so when he said it was the best workout he’s ever done I really paid attention.
I definitely just jumped right into it and started at the beginning. The first week was hard…very hard! I was sore and tired and worn out, my legs and arms burned, I couldn’t lift my arms over my head, and for a few days I couldn’t bend my knees because my legs were so sore. Sounds fun doesn’t it? But actually it’s been amazing and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve noticed muscles that I didn’t know I had, especially in my legs. I mean wow you should see my calf muscles. I can do more pull ups than I’ve ever been able to do and I’m definitely in much better than shape when I started.
Tomorrow I’ll talk about some of the individual workouts and a few more thoughts…
