Since many of our clients will be taking their engagement pictures in the next couple of months, we thought we’d share some tips about engagement photography with all of you. Enjoy!

  • LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION – Pick a spot that is meaningful to you. Maybe you met at a bar or you love to bowl…it’s okay to integrate these ideas into your engagement session! If nothing comes to mind, ask your photographer for input. Be creative…Red Rocks is way overdone! :)

  • Have an input – feel free to share ideas with your photographer during the session.

  • Get your hair/makeup done by a professional – it boosts your confidence and makes you feel gorgeous! Plus, professionals will know tips and tricks to working with specific weather and lighting conditions. Some of our favorite artists are Janine Schmenk with Makeup by Janine and Bre Osa with Salon Bre.

  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the session – it hydrates your skin and makes you look fresh!
  • What should I wear?
  • Coordinate but don’t match! Matching black polo shirts and jeans looks a bit cheesy! :)
  • Be careful with patterns.
  • Stay away from black – especially if you have dark hair!
  • Dark jeans typically look better than light colored khakis.
  • Look like yourself! If you’re a casual couple that wears jeans and flip-flops – do it!
  • Bring a couple of options – 1 casual look and 1 dressier look.
  • You may be asked to move/jump/run – so be comfortable!

  • Props/well-behaved pets are okay – flowers, balloons, umbrellas, cruiser bikes, scooters, scarfs, etc…

  • Don’t be afraid of bad weather – often times it can lead to some really unique and fun pictures.

  • RELAX – Don’t get overwhelmed! Instead of focusing on the camera and the photography, focus on each other.

  • Show as much affection as is possible or you’re comfortable with.
  • Andrew and I always tell our clients to kiss and hug as much as they want and that if we start to feel uncomfortable then we’ll let them know! HA!

  • Most importantly, be yourself! Every couple has little quirks – show them off! It’s part of you and your relationship!

Relax and enjoy the time together!

Cheers,

Jessica (and Andrew too!)
