The weather this past week in Denver has felt more like Oregon than Colorado…rainy, cloudy and cold! :(  But cloudy weather can make for some great pictures!  We photographed Elizabeth and Larry’s engagement session this past weekend and had such a great time playing in the rain with these two.  Elizabeth and Larry are getting married in Estes Park, Colorado at the Della Terra Mountain Chateau in October and we couldn’t be more excited for their wedding!  Here are a few of our favorites from their engagement session…be sure to leave us a comment and let us know what you think.  Enjoy! :)

We started shooting around the Riverfront Park / Commons Park area in downtown Denver.  Elizabeth and Larry wanted to make sure that we got some great spring pictures…so we headed out in search of flowers and blooming trees…

This sequence makes me laugh.  First of all, Elizabeth you are absolutely stunning!  I believe my exact instructions to Larry in this sequence were to “stand here and look like a COOL dude.”  Larry jokingly asked if he should look off to the left…and then did…and then proceeded to point.  Love, love, love Elizabeth’s expression as she is laughing at her groom-to-be!

I love the picture that Andrew captured on the left…the “almost kiss” is always the steamiest! :)

I love the leading lines in this picture as well…

Andrew and I had such a great time photographing Elizabeth and Larry last night!  The weather cooperated for a little while…and then the skies opened up and we got rained on.  They were such troopers!  Check back in the next few days to see more of their spring engagement pictures.

Andrew and I have returned from our vacation and started the process of editing the many, many pictures that we took.  It’s going to take a little while to get through all of those pictures…but be sure to check back to see some of the amazing places that we visited!  In the mean time, I thought I’d share some of Katie and Troy’s engagement pictures.  We met Katie and Troy out in Hollywood to shoot their engagement session.  It was actually the first time that we met…as Katie and Troy live in California and booked us over the phone for their wedding this August at the Lakewood Country Club here in Colorado.  We spent the evening walking and shooting around the Sunset Strip and getting to know Katie and Troy a bit better and soaking in a bit of the California sun (although it was a bit chilly that evening)!  Here are a few of our favorites from their session – be sure to leave us a comment and let us know what you think…enjoy!

Troy proposed to Katie on the balcony of the Sunset Tower Hotel.  What a great place to get engaged!  We made sure to get a few shots of them in front of the hotel.

And Troy’s expression in this one is classic…doesn’t he look like a guy who is madly in love?

Playing in the street…I love these two that Andrew captured!

You guys are seriously too cute together!

We found this old Dodge on the street behind the Sunset Tower Hotel…and it made for some great pictures.

Spring was in full bloom in LA…so we were able to find plenty of beautiful flowering trees.

Katie and Troy – we had such a great time photographing you and getting to know you a bit better!  You were such naturals in front of the camera and you did such a great job!  Thanks for playing along with all of our silly requests and for allowing us to shoot in your home state!  We’re so happy that things worked out for us to meet you out in California and we can’t wait for the wedding in August!

Take Care ~ Jessica (and Andrew too!)

Since many of our clients will be taking their engagement pictures in the next couple of months, we thought we’d share some tips about engagement photography with all of you. Enjoy!

  • LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION – Pick a spot that is meaningful to you. Maybe you met at a bar or you love to bowl…it’s okay to integrate these ideas into your engagement session! If nothing comes to mind, ask your photographer for input. Be creative…Red Rocks is way overdone! :)

  • Have an input – feel free to share ideas with your photographer during the session.

  • Get your hair/makeup done by a professional – it boosts your confidence and makes you feel gorgeous! Plus, professionals will know tips and tricks to working with specific weather and lighting conditions. Some of our favorite artists are Janine Schmenk with Makeup by Janine and Bre Osa with Salon Bre.

  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the session – it hydrates your skin and makes you look fresh!
  • What should I wear?
  • Coordinate but don’t match! Matching black polo shirts and jeans looks a bit cheesy! :)
  • Be careful with patterns.
  • Stay away from black – especially if you have dark hair!
  • Dark jeans typically look better than light colored khakis.
  • Look like yourself! If you’re a casual couple that wears jeans and flip-flops – do it!
  • Bring a couple of options – 1 casual look and 1 dressier look.
  • You may be asked to move/jump/run – so be comfortable!

  • Props/well-behaved pets are okay – flowers, balloons, umbrellas, cruiser bikes, scooters, scarfs, etc…

  • Don’t be afraid of bad weather – often times it can lead to some really unique and fun pictures.

  • RELAX – Don’t get overwhelmed! Instead of focusing on the camera and the photography, focus on each other.

  • Show as much affection as is possible or you’re comfortable with.
  • Andrew and I always tell our clients to kiss and hug as much as they want and that if we start to feel uncomfortable then we’ll let them know! HA!

  • Most importantly, be yourself! Every couple has little quirks – show them off! It’s part of you and your relationship!

Relax and enjoy the time together!

Cheers,

Jessica (and Andrew too!)

Andrew and I are so lucky! We get to see people on what is quite possibly one of the happiest days of their life…and Liz and Kris were no exception. We photographed their engagement pictures in Breckenridge earlier this winter and soon realized that these two were made for each other. Their zest for life and love of laughter will certainly create many happy memories in the years to come. Liz and Kris were married at the First United Methodist Church in Golden and then danced the night away up at the Boettcher Mansion. Here are some of our favorites from the big day…

Liz started the day with some beautifying at the Golden Hotel. Her gorgeous bridal gown was from Anna Be and I loved her golden ballet flats!

Makeup time…

Liz was so excited when she was getting into her dress…she just kept clapping and saying “YAY” :) So cute!

Liz clearly got her great smile and infectious laugh from her Mother…love this moment between the two.

Lisa Anderson with Sweet Pea Flowers did a fabulous job (as always) with all of the flowers for the wedding.

We arrived to a winter wonderland up at the Boettcher Mansion. There was a perfect dusting of snow on all of the evergreen trees! It was absolutely stunning!

Liz and Kris were troopers – letting us take a few pictures outside in the snow! Thanks guys!

I love the way Liz is peeking at the camera in the picture on the right.

Occasions by Sandy and Sweet Pea Flowers did a fantastic job of turning the Boettcher Mansion into a dream of pretty golds, ivory and burgundy. The room was breathtaking and the food was even better!

Liz and Kris’ favorite cookies were the perfect substitute for a cake!

A very well choreographed first dance! Love Kris’ expression on the right!

Proud parents…

The last “official” dance of the night was reserved for Liz’s grandparents. I’m not sure who enjoyed it more…the grandparents or the bride and groom. They were too cute!

Liz and Kris – thank you for allowing us to witness and be part of such a special day! We are so excited for you!

Andrew and I photographed a beautiful snowy Colorado wedding this past weekend. It was definitely chilly on Saturday, but nothing could damper the spirits of Liz and Kris as they gathered with family and friends to celebrate their union. Check back in a couple of days to see more of Liz and Kris’ wedding pictures. We’ll leave you with a couple of photos of the happy couple up at the Boettcher Mansion.

Andrew and I have recovered from our amazing trip to Little Rock, Arkansas for Jon and Mollie’s wedding. After shooting their engagement pictures in a near blizzard…we were sure that their wedding day would have nice weather. Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday were sunny and warm…but Saturday was cold and rainy! :( No worries though, Jon and Mollie were such great troopers and we were able to get some amazing pictures outside in the rain! Jon and Mollie are two of our closest friends…in fact, Andrew was one of the groomsmen! They were married at the Albert Pike Hotel and we feel so blessed to have witnessed the union of two incredible people. We are so excited to see where life takes them and to be a part of the many adventures to come. Here are a few of our favorites from their big day…

Mollie found this beautiful wedding dress at Anna Be in Denver, Colorado. The Little Black Dress Brigade did a fabulous job with the flowers for the wedding.

Mollie’s vintage veil was a bit of a pain to get pinned in…but it turned out just perfect!

The first look. I love Jon’s expression in the picture on the left.

Love this one that Andrew captured as they saw each other for the first time.

There was a really cool building across the street from the Albert Pike Hotel…it provided us with some coverage from the rain!

Hilarious! Mollie wore Patagonia socks with her adorable flats! It’s as if she was born to live in Colorado! We love it! :)

Mollie you are stunning!

One of my favorite series from the day.

Walking in the streets.

In front of the Albert Pike Hotel.

The wedding party…Andrew is in the middle right.

The girls.

The guys…

Andrew’s big debut…his first appearance in a wedding! (Other than our own of course!) But he couldn’t out-do Mollie and her Dad!

The Albert Pike Hotel offered a dramatic background for their ceremony and reception.

First dance…

Andrew giving a toast…

All the guys…

The getaway…

Jon and Mollie – thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. We couldn’t be happier for you both and we can’t wait to see what life brings your way!

Much Love ~ Jessica

Andrew and I head back to Denver tomorrow. Our stay here in Little Rock for Jon and Mollie’s wedding at the Albert Pike Hotel has been nothing short of amazing. Being surrounded by wonderful friends and witnessing the union of two of our very dear friends made for an outstanding time. We’ll leave you with a couple of pictures of the happy couple. Check back in a couple of days to see more of Jon and Mollie’s wedding pictures.

Andrew and I met Liz and Kris up in Breckenridge to shoot their engagement pictures this past Saturday and I think we’re still laughing! Liz and Kris are so full of life and laughter and we couldn’t be more excited for their wedding! They’ll be getting married in Golden this February. Here are a few of our favorites from the session…

I love the way Liz is looking at Kris in the picture on the left.

I love all of the little alleys up in Breckenridge.

Where it all started…

They’re such a cute couple!

After shooting in town we headed up towards Boreas Pass to get some sweet mountain views. Meet Dusty…Liz and Kris’ adorable dog.

Liz and Kris – Thanks for keeping us entertained and we can’t wait for the wedding!
